Mark Murphy Wins at Charlotte, Claims Points Lead

The second event of the season kicked off Wednesday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Brandon Griffitts claimed the pole for the event. Griffitts lead the field to green and the race was on. The battle for the lead went back and forth for most of the opening laps.

Things took a turn for the worse when on lap 17, the #45 of Griffitts spun while leading off turn 4. Randy Purdue and Thomas Storey were also collected in the wreck. Unfortunately, Grifitts and Purdue's trucks were beyond repair and were forced to retire prematurely from the race.

On the ensuing restart, Mark Murphy claimed the lead. Murphy ran away with the first position leaving the rest of the field in the dust. The remainder of the event saw only one more caution for a spinning #8 truck of Shawn Stanley. The entire second half of the race and then some ran caution free.

Murphy cruised to victory leading a race high eighty laps. Zach Michael finished in 2nd, holding off a fast approaching Tony Pizzaro. Mark Guthrie finished 4th, and in his first start of the season, Jacob Hobbs finished 5th. Murphy snatched the points lead from teammate Mike Tellier, who fell to 3rd in points after a wheel malfunction. Michael moved to 2nd, with Zakk Miller and Mark Guthrie rounding out the top five in points.
